Brazilian couple; When Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado and his wife, Lélia Deluiz Wanick Salgado, returned to their home in a tropical forest after years of travel, they found it destroyed. Determined to restore the area, they embarked on the ambitious task of planting over two million trees over many years. The couple’s initiative not only reforested their homeland but also revitalized the ecosystem, bringing back plants and animals.
The Brazilian couple was Faced with a barren wasteland; Sebastião’s depression was lifted when Lélia proposed the idea of replanting the forest. Despite the challenges, the couple successfully rejuvenated the area around their home, witnessing the return of wildlife. The transformation inspired them to establish the Instituto Terra, an organization dedicated to environmental conservation.
Salgado emphasized the crucial role of trees in transforming CO2 to oxygen, emphasizing the need for native trees and local seed gathering.
