Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Major (Rtd) Dr. Mustapha Ahmed, has sadly passed away.
The incident occurred during the late hours of Wednesday, February 7.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed had a notable career and served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ayawaso North Constituency from 2001 to 2016.
In March 2015, he was appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports by former President John Dramani Mahama, succeeding Mahama Ayariga of Bawku Central.
However, his tenure as Minister was brief, as he was replaced by Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye in a government reshuffle less than a year later.
In March of the following year, Dr. Ahmed was sentenced to seven days in prison for contempt of court. This was due to his trespassing on land he had been instructed to avoid by the Financial and Economic Crimes Division of an Accra High Court.
Furthermore, he was fined GH¢12,000 by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare-Botwe, with the alternative of serving an additional 30 days in jail if the fine was not paid.
Dr. Mustapha Ahmed is expected to be buried by Islamic customs.
In addition to his military service, Dr. Ahmed also worked as a dentist at the 37 Military Hospital in Accra.
He leaves behind a wife and three children.
