We are Ready for FIFA Sanctions: Parliament responds to Save Ghana Football demo

Ghana is seen as one of the countries not only in Africa but the world at large with greater exploits when it comes to football. Ghana has performed on the world stage winning laurels at the Olympic Games, world Under 17 tournaments, and bagging the 2010 Under 20 World Cup against world soccer giants, Brazil.

Aside from Ghana producing top-class or world-class soccer players like BabyJet Asamoah Gyan, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, Abedi Pele, Stephen Appiah, Sulley Muntari, Rev. Osei Kofi, Kuku Dadzi, and the likes, Ghana is also described by some top soccer practitioners as the “Brazil of Africa”, due to the top class performance Ghana exhibits on such stages. Ghana is also reported to be the second country to have exported most soccer players according to FIFA for the year 2023.

Ghana Blackstars is a four-time champion of the AFCON (Africa Cup of Nations). It’s been over 40 years since the country lifted its last AFCON trophy. Citizens of the country and some key stakeholders of the game including journalists obviously over the years have been criticizing the administration of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for poor management of both the Local league and the national teams (the junior ranks through to the senior teams; both male and female teams) of which they strongly believe is as a result of the trophy “barrenness” of the national teams.

This reason fueled the demonstration led by some astute Ghanaian sports journalists (Saddick Adams also known as Sports Obama and Patrick Osei Agyemank popularly known as Country Man Songo, Fire Man, and a host of others) in the capital city of Ghana, Accra on the 14th of February 2024. After a match from ‘Obra Spot’ to “Independence Square”, the leaders of the demonstrators, submitted a petition to the parliament house of Ghana and was well received.

The noble house received the petition in good faith and agreed to consider what was written in the petition.
